Born: 3 October, 1929
Died: 12 May, 2019
Teresa was born in Atotonilco el Bajo, Jalisco, daughter of Maximiliano Rivera and Amada Rivera Escobar and sister of Roberto, Manuel, Luis and Jesus, all of whom preceded her in death. She lived in the pueblo until emigrating to Milwaukee in 1959. She married Miguel Bonilla and they lived on the south side of the city for sixty years. She is survived by her husband Miguel, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
A humble, loving and caring person, Tia Tere always had a soft spot for the youngest children in the family. Buying them their gustos and spoiling us with candy and other treats. Always well dressed, in her prime, she’d always have her hair permed and always matching shoes, purse, skirt, blouse and hat, preferably turquoise. Going to the Cine Mexicano on sixth and National was always a special occasion where she was sure to buy you popcorn and a soda.
Aunt Teri never owned or drove a car. She relied on her bus pass and her feet to get around town. An avid walker and conversationalist, she would show up at your house unannounced for a quick visit and leave just before her transfer expired. Often saying, no mas una cosa mas y ya me voy, but fifteen minutes later, she would still be talking. Even though nonjudgmental, she had the Rivera willfulness but was just as quick with a laugh and an “ay caray”.
Tia had a strong faith in the Lord and had boundless love for children, kittens, birds and nature. She was a kind person who lived a simple life and was grateful for having family near her. She felt lucky to have family who never forgot her just as she never forgot us. Rest in peace gentle lady. We will always have you in our hearts.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Witkowiak Funeral Home on Thursday May, 16 from 6-8 p.m. for a Rosary and visitation. Additional visitation at the Funeral Home will be on Friday May, 17 from 9-10 a.m. followed by internment at Saint Adalbert’s Cemetery.
A special thank you to all the caregivers who helped Teresa in her last years. You are all angels. May God bless each and every one of you.
